About the Show

The page to get a clue

Blue's Clues is an American television series created by Angela C. Santomero, Traci Paige Johnson, and Todd Kessler. It had six seasons from 1996 to 2004 before getting a reboot, Blue's Clues & You!, which ran for five seasons from 2019 to 2024. The series focuses on Blue (voiced by Johnson), a barking blue dog who likes to play a game with her owner, Steve, what she wants to do or tell him and the audience by smacking her pawprints as clues on three items or characters. At the end of the fourth season in 2002, Steve (Steve Burns) moved out to go to college and was replaced by his brother, Joe (Donovan Patton), and their Filipino cousin, Josh (Josh Dela Cruz), eventually moved in for Blue's Clues & You!. Other housemates include Mailbox, Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, and their offspring Paprika (born in season 1), Cinnamon (born in season 4), and twins Sage and Ginger (born in Blue's Clues & You!'s first season), Shovel and Pail, Tickety Tock, Slippery Soap, and a snail, and Blue's neighbors are her best friend Magenta (writer/director Koyalee Chanda and Diane Salmander) and owner Miranda, Periwinkle the cat (Cameron Bowen, Kenny Kim, Victoria Pontecorvo, the late Jansen Pantierre, Luxton Handspider, and Peter Laurie) and owner Aly, Orange Kitten (Nicole Gibson) and owner Sam, Purple Kangaroo (Alexander Claffy) and owner Tyrese, Green Puppy (writer Adam Petzelman) and owner Wynonna, and the singing Rainbow Puppy (Brianna Bryan), Periwinkle's friend from the city.

Blue's Clues was an instant success and was dubbed in 60 languages. Not only that, but there were three co-productions in the UK, with host Kevin Duala, Portugal, with host Duarte Gomes, and Korea, with host HyunSup Shin, and maybe even more.

Having a successful children's show means there's got to be merchandise, and Blue's Clues and its reboot spawned the likes of video releases, books, toys, computer games, albums, apparel, and of course, Handy Dandy Notebooks and Thinking Chairs. What most Blue's Clues fans don't know is that the Thinking Chair wasn't actually made for the show, and the company that made the chairs made ones in different colors, with the one fans are familiar with being, of course, red.

In 2004, the show premiered a spin-off Blue's Room, in which Blue was a puppet and could talk, and the show was created for those reasons, kids wanted to hug Blue and talk to her. The spin-off ran from 2004 to 2007 with 2 seasons, the latter of which introduced Sprinkles (Joey Mazzarino), Blue's younger brother.

The show was shot in New York City, New York, whereas Blue's Clues & You! was shot in Toronto, Canada, and only a handful of people from the original returned to work on the reboot, including hosts Steve Burns (Steve) and Donovan Patton (Joe).
